Two willow photos. The first looking down some row Two willow photos. The first looking down some rows into the light. The middle row has some short Fanny’s White variety that has lost its leaves and then the Packing Twine variety which is holding on to its leaves backlit by the sun. The second photo is from five years ago. The view is looking straight through several rows of different varieties. Beautiful day yesterday for some bird photos. 1) D Beautiful day yesterday for some bird photos. 1) Dark-eyed Junco perched near the base of some Green Dicks willows. 2) Black-capped Chickadee with a sunflower seed. 3) Bushtit male in a Salix gracilistyla v. melanostachys. 4) Steller’s Jay in a Salix calliantha. 5) Northern Harrier female casing out the farm. 6) Great Horned Owl just after getting mobbed by a dozen Crows. 7) Barred Owl at dusk. 8) Trumpeter Swans flying over. . #birdsonthefarm #dunbargardens #skagitvalley
First basket is Katherine’s flower basket and th First basket is Katherine’s flower basket and the second is her garden basket. The flower has a larger base and shorter sides than the garden. Photo of Katherine we sent to Veranda magazine for Photo of Katherine we sent to Veranda magazine for an article they were doing on craftsmanship in the USA. We don’t have any professional portraits but we thought this ‘action shot’ was nice. Only ended up being a thumbnail in a photo montage of baskets and makers. Back in August the magazine contacted Katherine about borrowing some baskets for a photo shoot. We sent them several baskets we had on hand. The two baskets in the photos following the profile photo are what they used in the magazine. There is a montage of baskets on page 30 of the November/December 2020 issue. We haven’t actually seen the magazine so don’t know if there is a story and who it features. We do know there is some good company in the photo with Jennifer Zurick, Jonathan Kline, Michael Smalls, Fannie King and more included. Some recent log type baskets. The beautiful orange Some recent log type baskets. The beautiful orange color of the side weaving is from the variety Farndon. In the large basket it’s paired with the green of Irette. In the medium sized one with the double English randing the other willow is a nice light brown of Noir de Touraine. The third basket was made from the left overs of all three willows. The multi colored one was sent off to Chicago.
